Amityville Forum Archives

Here are a few old Amityville-related forums that we've managed to archive over the years. Hopefully we can dig up some more one day. These are "read-only" archives — you will not be able to reply to posts, and a lot of links will not work — but feel free to respond to the topics you come across by linking to them, quoting them, or cut/pasting them to the current Truth Board...

This is when the Truth Board was hosted by Hostboard and moderated (at least for a while) by Chris Lutz. Note there are no active links on page 4 of the index, and only a few on page 3. So about half of the board got archived.

The Truth Board bounced around a lot, going from one free forum host to the next (hopefully we have some stability now, being on our own private server). This archive comes from when the Truth Board was hosted by voy.com. Doesn't seem like a lot of activity back then, and the formatting is fairly irritating.

This is one of Amityville Rock's old boards, which seemed to have a slightly "pro-hoax" feel to it. This is not an archive, merely a link, as this board is still "live" on the Net — possibly the oldest Amityville board still surviving in its original location (though inactive since 2003).

Perhaps the briefest incarnation of the Truth Board was this version hosted on Boards 2 Go. The original index for this board was not saved — we just had a bunch of files containing individual threads. We re-created the index, but have no idea just how "complete" this archive is. But since we only lasted a couple of months at this location, its probably not missing much.

Ric Osuna's Hoax Board — put up just in time to promote his book! How cool is that? I'm not sure exactly when this board closed, but the dates above (as with most of the dates on this page) reflect the date range I saw during my cursory examination. There were other hoax boards as well, but I'm not sure if they were ever archived.

The Truth Board as it appeared when hosted on everyone.net (the Index page was re-created). Only two months of posts are represented here, but this incarnation of the board lasted for two years — so a lot of posts are missing. I believe someone out there has a full, proper archive of this board. If its you, let us know. We had to leave this host in January of 2004 when they stopped hosting free forums.

This is possibly the best archive of them all, as far as being the most complete and the sheer number of posts. This is the Truth Board as it appeared on EZboard. This was around the time that MGM was filming the remake of The Amityville Horror, and due to that film's publicity, our forum became way too popular for its own good. EZboard based their renewal fees on board activity, and our fee turned out to be a whopping $800! (At the time, you could buy a domain name for $12/year and get web hosting space for $10/month — so $800 for a year's usage of a simple forum was outrageous.)

We left EZboard not only due to that insane renewal fee, but we also disliked their practice of removing posts. Whenever someone complained to EZboard, their tech guys would just go in and remove the offending post — we had no say in the matter, and wouldn't even be told when it happened.

Plus, a short time after this archive was made, EZboard's site got hacked and we lost hundreds of posts. So with all of that, we decided we'd had enough of free hosting services, and decided to host the Truth Board privately — first on Lee's amityvillehorror.com servers, and then later moving to our present location (after Lee's passing).
