Seems the original owner of 112 died in the house in 1939...

Very interesting stuff!

So someone did die at 112 Ocean Ave. other than the DeFeos.

Good Article!

I never knew Mr. Moynahan passed away in the house, either. Quite a revelation.

Thanks so much for these finds!

Can't help but notice two of them say "suddenly." I'm guessing that's shorthand for "accidental death" or maybe also "unexpected death." Though I guess it doesn't matter much what they died from.

Nice to help understand in terms of the history of the property.

In TNTDD…Osuna wrote…

“When John and Catherine Moynahan died, their daughter, Eileen Fitzgerald, moved in with her own family. She lived there until October 17, 1960, when John and Mary Riley bought the house.”

…since Mrs. Moynahan lived until January of 1960…did Ric mean that Mrs. Fitzgerald and her family only lived in the house for nine months?

BTW Ric…it was JOSEPH and Mary Riley who bought the house.

And Will Savive…if you’re reading this…you should take note of this. Your “book” also lists Joseph Riley as John Riley.

Imagine that.

Joseph Riley. Thanks Max! I had it wrong on the FAQ site, too. I thought that info was safe enough to trust Osuna with...

And yeah, interesting question -- did Eileen live in the house only after her mother died in January? Or did she have her family "move in with grandma" at an earlier date?

Or did she even live there at all? Maybe her mother's death gave her the house, and it just took her 9 months to sell it, without her even living in it?

His daughter, Eleanor Moynahan was "an investigator with the Suffolk County Welfare Office."

That would be an interesting job.....

It's interesting how John Moynahan, Catherine Moynahan and Thomas Moynahan both had requiem masses at St Martin of Tours church. But than again they were Catholic and they did live in Amityville. Just an observation, not speculation as to any coincidence they having a requiem mass at the same church as the DeFeo's funeral.

Again...Age 61 for John Moynahan....Dies suddenly at 112 Ocean Avenue...Do you realize how many people who have been affiliated to this house or story have died before their time? Coincidence? The case is mounting against it at least in my mind... :o
