Exclusive: Daniel Farrands Talks The Haunting on Long Island: The Amityville Murders

We cannot even begin to tell you how stoked we are that Daniel Farrands (Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, The Haunting in Connecticut, Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers) is readying The Haunting on Long Island: The Amityville Murders for CineTel Films.

Not only is Farrands a director with a keen eye for storytelling and detail, he’s also an Amityville historian; and believe us when we tell you there are few people on earth as well versed in the Amityville saga as he. Recently we caught up with Farrands to get the scoop on the new flick…

“I’m excited to tell a unique story that’s not another reboot or reimagining of The Amityville Horror — and not connected to the Lutz haunting, demonic dollhouses, possessed mirrors, or cursed theaters in any way,” Farrands tells us, adding, “This story focuses on the possible events in the days leading to the DeFeo family mass murders and the baffling mysteries that surround the case to this day.”

He also says, “It’s not a documentary or a docu-drama. It’s a domestic thriller with supernatural elements that portrays the DeFeo family as real human beings caught up in a series of events that ultimately led to their tragic demise — and unwittingly spawned a modern legend.”

Farrands is set to direct from his own screenplay with production starting this summer. No other details are available, but we do have the plot crunch for you!

Synopsis:
On the night of November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo, Jr., took a high-powered rifle and murdered his entire family as they slept. At his trial DeFeo claimed that “voices” in the house commanded him to kill.

Thirteen months later the Lutz family bought the house and stayed only 28 days before fleeing in terror. Their nightmarish ordeal shocked the world in The Amityville Horror. The Lutzes may have escaped from Amityville with their lives … but the DeFeos weren’t so lucky. This is their story.

The actress who played the daughter Patricia Montelli in "Amityville 2 - the possesion" comes full circle this year when she plays Louise DeFeo in the upcoming
"The Amityville Murders" based on the real story of what happened to the DeFeo family in 1974.

Here´s a pic from Dianes dressing room on set.

I have no idea about this movie but fingers crossed its better than the last few films. Needs to live up to the standards of Amityville Asylum.

The interim cast of characters include most of the DeFeo family members in addition to 'Jody DeFeo'.

Dan Farrands is writing and directing, so hopefully he will keep it on track.

The by-line for this movie is similar to Amityville 2 ("the Lutz's fled but this family were not so lucky")

Title and director change but still with the Amityville: The Awakening (still in a Weinstein induced coma) connection (writer/director) after being redirected from Amityville: 1974 (wow, the power you have given me...)

Well, that is true, and quite insultingly condescending coming from you.
Thanks for the compliment. Wish I had one for you but I don't so, I offer you a quote from George Carlin:
'Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn’t mean the circus has left town.'

At least you quoted Carlin. He was a great comedian.

As long as people do not take it as 100% accurate or go overboard with over-analysis, and remember it is 'based' on true events they will enjoy it.

I will not focus on the negatives that could come from it but if it does anything besides entertain it will hopefully capture people's attention to research the actual facts of the case of which it is based.

The trailer looks very interesting however and seems to cover what could have caused the haunting, and the theory that the DeFeo's experienced paranormal activity leading up to the murders. it is a theory I have not completely written off.
