Should the house be demolished?

Post by Felix_the_Fox » Mon Sep 30, 2019 5:26 am

Whether or not you actually believe in the Lutz's claims i'm sure if there's one thing we can agree on is that the house's fame (or infamy if you'd like) definitely left a lasting impression on the town of Amityville.....with people coming from around the globe to get up close with that almost century old Dutch Colonial........and despite the town's best efforts it's still the reason why the name Amityville is well recognized. so here's my question.....should the house be scheduled for demolition? really i'm surprised no one has talked about this before.......should the house be torn down it would be nothing more than a bad memory for the village.

That's because it's not worth talking about.

Yes, it should be, if Amityville ever wants to move past the event.

Amityville has already moved past the event (unlike you...with your ridiculous photographic plate).

Wht would you tear down a beautiful house? Apart from the tragedy of 1974 nothing else ever happened.

Exactly, what else is Amityville known for? When you hear the word it immediately conjures up the murder and haunting of Ocean Avenue!

Would the town of Amityville even have any legal way to tear down a privately owned residence. The house isn't a drug house or something like that. Even if the house did get torn down, people would still come to see the empty lot.

There is no need to be rude. Given the lack of decorum on this forum, it is not surprising that people hardly post here anymore.

Agree. But it is what it is and there has to be some degree of acceptance for our hobby.

No, it should not be torn down because there's no reason to, and like Kevin said, how would they even be able to tear down a privately owned residence?

TLDR: There's just no justifiable reason for the demolition of 108 Ocean Ave.

No, really someone could probably make a small fortune setting it up as a seasonal haunted house and off season bed and breakfast.

I really see no benefit to demolishing the house. People will still drive by gawking at a pile of dirt where the house used to be, until a new house gets built and they will stare at that. So there is no winning really. Nothing to be gained from such an exercise.

Well it's a privately owned residence, so the answer is obviously no. And what exactly is the rationale for demolition? Aside from the occasional irritation of curiosity seekers, I don't see what the trouble is. In fact, the town should probably be grateful for the Lutz story. It attracts tourists, many of whom stay and get something to eat or otherwise spend some cash in their township.

So who is going to spend about $1,000,000 to buy the house so the village can tear it down? And do you really think the city would want to remove that property from the tax rolls?
