Tree branches.

It appears to be a statue of St. Joseph holding the Child Jesus in his arms. The DeFeo's must have been Catholic.

i do think that the defeos were religous because i remember seeing in other pictures other statues of holy people...i.e jesus and mary in their yards and that type of thing. But that one thing does freak me out a bit.

I noticed more religious objects while looking at the crime scene photos at amityvillemurders.com. Pretty gruesome website.

in a picture i saw outside the front of their house, there was like on statue, i cant remember who of, but it was surounded by a whole lot of other little statues. They all looked like religous ones. Like mary and jesus...

I would say the defeos were a religous family, judging from all the statues. But that other statue, the look a like of abraham lincoln makes me think though....it does seem a bit odd....in a way.... :?

This is a joke right?

The St Joseph statue holding the baby Jesus is very common. However, hyper-religiosity with overabundance of religious statues and icons in a home may be indicative of spiritual uneasiness and fear on part of the family over perception of evil presence. Why did they feel such a need for spiritual protection that they had so many statues around? Obviously, after the murders, we all know there was something to fear. So it makes sense. But the statue itself is not paranormal.

I agree. Especially common in the 1970's.

This is a fascinating picture for a couple
of reasons. Firstly, the better the quality of the copy you're
looking at (and how finely you can zoom in on it, as a result
of having a higher quality picture), the more and more images
you'll notice in the windows.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, many people DO
see multiple faces in the windows, and what makes *that*
point interesting is this: The picture was taken before
the Lutz family moved in. If one can see this much 'activity' in
one simple photograph taken after the murders, it suggests
there was some sort of paranormal activity *before* the Lutz
family ever got there, which sorta quashes the theory that the
Lutzes 'called up,' 'evoked,' or otherwise somehow attracted a
paranormal entity to be there.

But this does not preclude that Ronnie was actually possessed,
because one need keep in mind that evil entities are attracted
to sites where evil events occur also, so they *may* have 'arrived'
after the murders.

I however sense that there *were* dark forces very subtly
affecting many members of the Defeo family, and do believe
these subliminal suggestions contributed to the overall horror
that later took place. But no, I don't sense Ronnie was ever
possessed, and even he insists he wasn't.

But then again Ronnie has severe 'truth' issues ...

I agree absolutely - don't forget too that the place was crawling with investigators at that time. It was a taped off 'crime scene.'

All I see in that photograph are reflections of the house opposite/trees/clouds etc., and contrasting lights and darks in the curtains.

Sorry.

I have to admit I don't see anything in the pictures that are marked off, but I do see something in the top left window one of the creepy windows!) Call me crazy, but it looks like a little boy or a baby. Does anyone else see it?

I can clearly see all the 'faces' marked on the above photograph but no more than I can see faces in my own windows or any others that I may stare at for long enough: I believe them to be simply reflections. Not convinced; sorry.
