I'm not sure if i'm correct but isn't the main house in A4 actually open to the public for tours? I believe I heard it was but i'm not sure.

Which house? The Amityville one or Grandma's house?

Grandma's house. You know, it's interesting they filmed in historical houses. You would the expect the house in Toms River to have local landmark status but when I went and checked, the idiots in Town Hall looked at me like they had never heard of it before. They checked and it wasn't which was a surprise to me.

I know Grandma's house has been listed as a heritage site but I don't know if it is a private residence and someone lives there or what it is used for.

This site says it is the location of Aldez Welders.

Actually I've seen three seperate "opening names" for the movie...

On NBC and the TriMark VHS version, the VHS cover and opening scene were titled: Amityville: The Evil Escapes

Vidmark released it on VHS as: Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes
Image

Some versions of the DVD, like the one I own, are titled: Amityville Horror: The Evil Escapes. I can't remember if that's what the cover has on it, or what the cover looks like off the top of my head. There's a few DVD versions out there.

And here's the famous image used for many versions of the Amityville Dollhouse posters, VHS covers, DVD covers, and the score cover.

I personally like this poster image the most out of any I've seen -

I'm lost. Are you guys saying this is the same house in both pictures? 'Cause they look totally different to me.

Or are they 2 different houses, both of which were used in the same film?

They're different houses, but right next to each other.

The first photo is the house they used as the Amityville house, but had a facade on it during filming. So it's not as recognizable as it was in the movie.

The second photo is the house next to that house, you can see it in the back ground in the movie during the yard sale scene, it has the "eye" windows on it.

If you look at the still shot of the old lady from Amityville 4 holding the painting, she's standing in front of the house in the first picture, but you can see the house in the second photo in the back ground behind her.

That's actually one of the first things I noticed while looking at sattelite/map views of it last night, but I guess they didn't really need the house to be near water since it was only used for the opening of the movie anyway.

Well, you guys did a great job finding the Amityville 4 house. Now, let's see who can find the Amityville 1992 house.

Good luck!

I'm gonna guess somewhere in California.

I was thinking the same thing, Kevin. Chances are, given the area it's in, it probably really is in some kind of development like in the movie. I doubt it's really called "Burlwood", which I think is what it's called in the film.

There was mention in the movie of the San Gabriel Valley area.

The movie was filmed in late 1991 and early 1992, and it appears that the house is in a recently built subdivision. So, are there any areas of San Gabriel that were built in 1990-91? That may be a clue.

By the way, about Amityville 4......

Here is where they filmed the interiors for the Grandmother's house.

http://www.woodburystory.com/
(Scroll down about half way and look at the picture of the staircase. Unfortunately, the picture is quite small)

It has been used in many other movies, including "The Gacy House" from 2010.

So to summarize, Amityville 4 locations are:

Amityville House:
402 East M Street Wilmington, CA

Grandmother's House (Exteriors):
11840 W Telegraph Rd. Santa Paula, CA

Grandmother's House (Interiors):
2606 N. Madison Ave. Altadena, CA

Wow, I had always thought they used the actual interiors of the house shown from the outside!

Out of the 5 pictures shown of the rooms in the house, here's what rooms they look like to me:

Top left and right photos look like the window the priest smashes at the end so the daughter can escape. If you watch the movie closely they used trick photography to combine the two locations. It goes from the interior of him smashing the window and then cuts to the exterior with her running off the porch to her brother.

The middle photo is obviously the straircase used in the film multiple times, as Reg_Read pointed out.

The bottom left photo is the older daughter's room, you can tell because of the wallpaper and also, the 3 upside-down tulip lights that are shown in the film hanging above the younger daughter, right before the older daughter gets hit in the head by the window.

The bottom right photo looks like Nancy's room, the widowed mother in the film. I remember her having a fireplace similar to that one in the film, and that ceiling fixture is ringing a bell.

I'm gonna have to watch the movie again now and figure out if I'm right about these rooms lol too bad the photos are so tiny.

I just noticed in the one photo of the staircase, there's a doorway into what looks like another large room.

In the movie, the doorway is there, but there's a wall behind it, I guess to make the house not look too big. Next time I watch the movie I'll be paying close attention to the scenes to see if they ever goofed with the locations.

It's amazing how many times I've seen this movie and never realized how many locations were used for just one house. I always assumed everything was filmed in the same location. I usually always notice when locations change during movies, sometimes you can tell when there's a window on the outside of the house but then not on the inside (this happened in one of the Psycho movies.)

They did a really good job making it all look like one location though, and as it turns out it's actually 3 seperate locations.

The only part that ever really looked like a set to me was the attic where the lamp ends up later in the movie.
