First Person Killers: Ronald DeFeo

Running Time: 60 Minutes

What makes a person decide to become a killer - and what does he feel like before, during, and after the act? In this hour, we'll explore the mind of Ronald DeFeo, who killed six members of his family in Amityville, N.Y., in 1974. Interviewed inside Greenhaven prison in New York State, DeFeo discusses his motivations, why he was so angry the night of the killings, how he felt as his family died, and why he ultimately confessed. A chilling visit to a place where few of us ever go - inside the mind of a killer.

First Person Killers. The Ronald DeFeo Story.

Postby non-phixion » Sat Apr 15, 2006 8:11 pm

Greetings viewers and listeners.

Although my affiliate network will not be airing the greatly anticipated upcoming documentary, we have recently obtained an audio file in which Mr. DeFeo expresses his deepest remorse concerning the death of his family. As you listen to his lengthy statement, please take note of the sincere pain in his voice.
May he find the Justice he so rightly deserves.

Me and Tracey disagree and we argue all the time... that's what we got "going on"... but any counter-arguments we are gonna have once the A&E show airs, won't amount to anything if we just insult her and her views.

I LIKE Tracey as a person, I just don't agree with what she's doing. And that's no reason to resort to cheap insults.

Great find Krissy!

The show presents an unsettling portrait of a killer who is by turns repentant and defiant. He is also confused. Like he did in his trial three decades ago (according to juror Amelia Franza, who is among those also interviewed for the show), DeFeo offers several versions of what happened.

The gist seems to be: DeFeo, 23 at the time, killed only his father, who had been abusive; his mother, who was in bed with his father; and his eldest sister, Dawn, 18. The other three victims - sister Allison, 13, and brothers Mark, 12, and John, 9 - were killed by Dawn, DeFeo says, before he killed her.

The show presents evidence that refutes every one of DeFeo's claims. The evidence comes in the form of testimony from officials involved in the case, including Judge Thomas M. Stark, the judge at DeFeo's trial, who calls the Amityville murders the "most heinous" murders committed in Suffolk County since its founding (in 1683).

At the end of the show, after interviewing DeFeo for approximately 4 1/2 hours, Dr. Hoge shares his thoughts.

"I didn't find anything credible about the Dawn story," he says. "In fact, I think the most credible part of the interview was, it was very clear to me as a psychiatrist that he was disturbed about the murder of his brothers and his younger sister.

"And I wouldn't be able to say this was absolutely true, but it made me believe that, in fact, he had killed them."

This is gonna be a fun show. Glad Ronnie agreed to be interviewed. Seems like its gonna really help his case.
